ARENA RIGA – Dinamo Riga has halted a three game losing streak, with Mikelis Redlihs scoring two goals to give his team a 2-0 victory over Vityaz on Sunday night.
Having lost their three previous matches at Arena Riga, the victory gave fans something to smile about and left Pekka Rautakallio's team resting easier ahead of their one week break with the three points secured from the win enough to see them overtake CSKA who could only secure one point in a shoot out loss to Atlant earlier on Sunday night.
For Chris Holt, the win also his third shutout in 28 games this season.
Currently coming second in the league for assists made this season, Redlihs went from being the provider to the finisher on Sunday by claiming two goals in the second period, the first coming in just the 16th second and the second coming almost exactly ten minutes later. The attacker now moves to fifth overall in the league in points scored.
On both occasions it was Janis Sprukts and his brother Krisjanis providing the assists.
In the final period Vityaz did what they are notoriously famous for, inciting an all-in brawl that also saw one of their players, Jon Mirasty attempting to pull players from the Dinamo Riga bench into the fight.
Mirasty was consequently removed from the ice while a host of other players would be sent to the penalty box, turning the final moments of the game into a farce.
Dinamo Riga now has eight days away from the ice before traveling to Poprad, Slovakia to play Lev on Dec. 20.
