Jamie Johnson signs two-year contract with Dinamo Riga

RIGA – Dinamo Riga has signed a two-year contract with 30-year-old Canadian forward, Jamie Johnson.

Described as a strong passer and finisher, Johnson joins the Latvian club from AHL team Grand Rapids Griffins, for whom he has played for the past two seasons. Last season the Ontario native scored 21 goals and added 37 assists in 76 regular season appearances.

Johnson's arrival in Riga will mark his second stint in Europe, having previously played one season for HC TPS in the Finnish SM-liiga, picking up eight goals and 20 assists in 42 regular season games; and three assists in six playoff games.

At the end of Johnson's season in Finland, the Canadian returned to North America in 2009, signing a two-way contract with the Florida Panthers.

However, Johnson never appeared for the club, instead spending one season playing for the Rochester Americans in the AHL.

In 2010, Johnson was traded to the Detroit Red Wings but never suited up for the club, instead spending two seasons with the Griffins.
