Riga will this season play host to the KHL All Star game on January 21 with Sandis Ozolins named to captain the Western team.
The announcement was made on Wednesday evening during a break in Dinamo Riga’s match with Lev, a game in which the home team prevailed 4-2.
While 39-year-old Ozolins will betaking on captaining responsibilities for the Western team, Russian legend Sergei Federov will be responsible for his opponents; the Eastern team.
In the build up to the game a number of other activities will also take place in Riga with fans also being provided the opportunity to test their skills in a number of different challenges.
This will be the fourth All-star game in the history of the KHL. Previous games have taken place on Moscow’s Red Square, in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, and Saint Petersburg.
